By recycling paper and card we are protecting natural resources, saving energy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and keeping landfill space free for other types of rubbish that can't be recycled.

  • All newspapers printed in the UK are made from 100% recycled paper.
  • Each year, people in the UK use 12.5 million tonnes of paper and cardboard. That is the same weight as 3 million African elephants.
  • An average family in the UK uses 6 trees worth of paper a year.
  • Paper recycling does have limits. Every time a piece of paper is recycled, the fibres becomes shorter, weaker and more brittle. In general, paper can be recycled up to seven times before it must be discarded.
